The exchange of virtual currency for real-world money can be a challenge for many online games. It can disrupt in-game economics, destabilizing player experiences and turning games into pay-to-win scenarios. In RuneScape, the trade in the digital gold currency has been a problem that has led to bots mining the resource, and even claims that the capability to buy in-game 'bonds' for real-world money amounts to gambling.
Today, Jagex has outlined plans to tackle the problem. In a blog article which is attributed to "The RuneScape Team", Jagex states that "gold bought through RWT is a major issue in any online game with a tradeable currency", and that although the "Anti-Cheating Team has done much to fight RWT sellers both in but also out" however, they will be taking more drastic measures with immediate impact.
In a statement, Jagex claims to have a "growing team and improved methods", Jagex says it will no longer just be looking for sellers of gold or resources with RWT but as well buyers Cheap RuneScape Gold. The idea is to curb the demand, as well as the supply.
